There once was man who was called Sherlock Holmes. In an effort to save his friend, he killed a man. Before his punishment could be carried out, a dead man comes back to life repeating the same thing over and over again: Did you miss me?
Meanwhile, in all of space and time, The Doctor frees Gallifrey from the bubble universe the planet was in, and the Time War was once again averted, at least for the time being. When Gallifrey was released, so was The Master, who fled from the authorities and took up base on Earth. There, he began his plan to rule the galaxy.
However, there is another another darkness lurking somewhere in time. The Time Lords were only aware when a massive hole was ripped in the fabric of time, which caused previous regenerations of The Doctor to appear on Earth, at Cardiff. However, they weren't the only ones. The Master's previous regenerations also were revived and brought to Cardiff. These past regenerations weren't Time Lords, though, instead they found themselves with one heart and mostly human. The Twelfth Doctor was sent on a mission to discover the cause and the effects of the rip in time (the Time Lords did not know that the two Time Lord's previous selves had appeared on Earth).
Whoever caused the rip in time also caused a rip in the universes, causing those who did not originally come from another universe to be sucked back into their original universe, namely Rose and Jackie Tyler and the Meta-Crisis Doctor.
The tear cannot be fixed, but the universe can survive with it, if no more damage were to occur. What was the purpose of bringing back The Doctors and The Masters? Who caused the hole in time? Can time be repaired? Can the one who caused it be stopped? Can The Doctors work together? Can The Doctor work with the Masters to save the universe?
